The Value Of Patience In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

If you want to learn, if you want to truly improve in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, then it’s paramount that you develop patience.

It doesn’t matter how fast (or how slow) you go.
Patience will be a building block that enables you to keep improving your skill further down the road.

Brian Glick explains why this is the case:

Whether you’re a fast learner or a slow one, you’ll find there’s an almost universal experience of impatience embedded in the learning process.

Guard passing, inversions, takedowns – no matter the topic, you often want to get to the end so you can see the finished result.

If you learn to enjoy the process, then you’ll have an easier time progressing:

If instead of rushing through it you can learn to become PATIENT with the process, enjoying the effort you have to exert in research and discovery, you’ll find a kind of organic growth that stays with you over the long-term.

Looking back, the extra time you put in won’t seem exhausting and laborious – it’ll seem invaluable.
