What is it like for Mikey Musumeci to be known as one of the top-ranking submission grapplers in the world?
To have other people expect from him to always be winning matches, to always be on top of his game, to never falter…
How does it feel to live with all that pressure?
Well, Mikey understands that the pressure is just the reflection of reality he lives in.
In a recent South China Morning Post interview, he emphasized that the pressure is a part of his responsibility – and he has to own to it:
I live with the pressure. The responsibility of being in the position I’m in is that you have to live with the pressure and you have to grow from the pressure.
He isn’t used to all of that pressure just yet. But he’s learned to live and contend with it:
I feel like every time I had pressure when I won the worlds, I was like: “Okay, I’m used to it now.”
[But] then, the pressure would grow more, then it would grow more, then it would grow more.
So I feel like it’s a responsibility but I’ve learned to live with it and use it as fuel.
