Do you sometimes struggle with creating submission opportunities in BJJ?
As in, no matter how much you try to set up submissions, you just can’t seem to get them going?
Well, it might be the case that you’re making a mistake of trying to apply submissions on a static opponent.
Which, in turn, means that there’s a really easy way to create more opportunities for the tap!
John Danaher, who is one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coaches in history of the sport, reveals more:
The hardest times to apply submissions are on a static opponent who’s limbs are thoroughly contracted.
Movement almost always provokes an opponent into extension of the limbs and an extended opponent is much easier to submit.
In other words, you should always be aiming to create movement when it comes to your opponent.
Because, as they move, more submission openings will present themselves to you:
Keep your opponent moving – if this proves difficult – move around your opponent – both will provoke an opponent into reaching and extending his limbs – and if you’ve been practicing your submissions diligently – that’s all you need to attack!
