BJJ Practitioners: Start Taking Responsibility & You’ll Improve A Lot

If there’s one thing that’s always on a BJJ practitioner’s mind, it’s the one of improvement. Everyone wants to get better and almost everyone who’s been training for a long time wants to train as often as possible. But, as you may have already known, becoming better isn’t just about training as hard and as often as possible; rather, it has a lot to do with your mindset.
And, well, there’s a lot to consider when it comes to mindset in general. But one of the most important things that you could do is to start taking responsibility for your choices.

Why is this important in Jiu-Jitsu? Professor Ryan Young, from Kama Jiu-Jitsu, explains.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO BECOME BETTER IN JIU-JITSU

Why is taking on responsibility so important? It’s because it will allow you to make the best out of your situation, no matter where you find yourself at the given moment.

For instance, if you’re someone who complains about getting tapped out because “the choke was over the chin” or if you’re someone who’s always making excuses so as to why you couldn’t tap out a lower belt… You’ll never notice the mistakes you’re making. You’ll never see what you could improve, because you’re always putting the weight on other people’s shoulders – never on your own.
Therefore, it’s time to start taking on responsibility for your choices, as well as for your thoughts and actions. It’s by choosing to do that, that you’ll soon start noticing incredible jumps in your performance.

Professor Young elaborates more on the video below:
