No one becomes successful just through their own merit, not even those who are the most successful in their field. Such is the case with Gordon Ryan as well who, despite what some may think of him, fully respects and is grateful for his Professor – John Danaher.
In a recent Instagram post, Ryan spoke out about his gratefulness towards Danaher. About how, without him, he wouldn’t think in the same way he does today:
I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it a million more: the secret to my success isn’t a secret, it’s right here.
Obviously there are other things than John that make a Champion. But without him, I wouldn’t think the way I do about the sport, and that is the most important thing.
Whenever I asked a question he would give me a half answer, a direction to follow, and Ideas to work with, but would always leave more to be desired. He would force me to think about the position if I truly wanted the full answer. The way he taught me made it so that the more time I train, the faster I get better.
Ryan emphasizes that he’s improving at a faster rate today than he’s ever been improving, and that this is all due to John Danaher:
The more I know about the sport the easier it is to learn new moves or refine others. It’s like a puzzle that gets easier as you put together more and more pieces. I am improving at a faster rate now than I ever have in my career previously and this will only have a compounding effect over time.
All of this has been because of the last 10 years (8 full time) that I’ve been learning from him. If you think you’ve seen the best yet, you are dead wrong. And if you think you’re progressing faster than me without him in your corner, you’re even more wrong.
I am forever in debt to this guy and excited for the future. 2022 is the year that every will shut their mouths, for good.
