If you want to develop a dangerous Mount position in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, then just learning the technical aspects won’t be enough… You can have your hips low, you can have your hooks in, and you can be controlling the opponent’s head; but if you don’t develop the feeling for the position, you’ll never become excellent at it.
For instance, one of the most important Mount position concepts is being loose. Here’s what that means, as explained by Nick “Chewy” Albin.
BEING LOOSE IN THE MOUNT POSITION
Chewy emphasizes that, of course, there are lots of moments when you have to stay tight to the opponent when in Mount. However, staying tight in situations when (for example) they’re trying to escape will mean that they’ll off-balance you – and they’ll do it much more easily than if you were to just become loose at the moment when they went for a bridge.
Furthermore, if you loosened up when they bridged, perhaps you could have transitioned half-way to their back as well. Additionally, becoming loose can help you deal with their frames, as well as with submission setups.
It all comes down to two “actions”: knowing when to become loose and when to tighten up. Chewy explains this in more detail on the video below:
