Is memorizing BJJ techniques tough for you? There’s no shame to it; as a matter of fact, memorizing Jiu-Jitsu moves is difficult for the vast majority of people – simply because of the sheer amount of techniques and the details that make them work.
Andre Galvao has had to devise his own approach to learning and remembering BJJ moves, too. The approach is made out of 2 tips, that are simple to use… They are almost non-brainers. But you need to apply them actively.

TWO TIPS FOR MEMORIZING BJJ TECHNIQUES

Andre says that the most important thing you could do for memorizing BJJ techniques is to actively drill them.

Sure, this isn’t news to a lot of BJJ athletes, maybe not even you. But, be honest with us – how deliberate are you when it comes to drilling? Do you just go through the motion or really apply yourself to the technique? Do you try to make it better with each repetition?
Your body needs to both study and remember the technique at hand. So, the more deliberately you practice it in drills, the better your body will become in remembering the execution when you roll.

Writing notes goes hand-in-hand with drilling. Sure, your body needs to remember the techniques; but your mind needs to be able to notice the details that make these techniques work. And it needs to be able to remember them, too.
By writing notes after (each) class, you’ll become better at noticing the details during training – and then using them to your advantage in the very next class.
