As long as you keep training Jiu-Jitsu, you’ll more than likely get injured at one point in time or another. BJJ is a martial art, after all – injuries are simply a part of it.
However, some of these injuries can be avoided. And need to be avoided; such as injuries to the neck. And unfortunately, it can be quite easy for these injuries to pop up. Especially when it comes to getting stacked.
Here’s how to keep your neck safe while getting stacked in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
KEEP YOUR NECK SAFE DURING WHILE GETTING STACKED
- You’ve got to defend yourself. Beware that your training partners could go for a Stack Pass and potentially injure your neck. So, be serious about defending yourself from getting stacked in the first place; after all, in a street fight scenario, this could be a deadly position to end up in.
- Have an exit strategy. If you’re getting stacked and you’re unable to keep your weight on top of your shoulders, so much so that it’s being transferred to your neck, then it’s time to go for your exit strategy. For instance, roll over your shoulder and end up in Turtle.
- What both of the aforementioned tips have in common is making sure that your neck isn’t getting compressed. So, make sure that this is your priority number one, even if it means that you’ll have to let go of your Triangle Choke.
- However, there is something you could do in order to not lose the Triangle when getting stacked and to save your neck. And that’s scooping the training partner’s arm or, even better, their leg.
This will alleviate the pressure off your neck and will grant you an opportunity to sweep your partner.
