You train Jiu-Jitsu, but do you compete? Well, Zoltan Bathory thinks you should!
The founder and rhythm guitarist of heavy metal band Five Finger Death Punch is a Judo and BJJ black belt, as well as a long-time competitor.
Here is why he thinks you should compete too, as explained in a recent Instagram video:
If you train Jiu-Jitsu and you don’t compete, I would advise that you should [compete].
By keeping doing this, as you keep competing, you’ll eventually feel comfortable in that environment.
It rewires your brain, it rewires your emotional and physical response to danger. And, again, in what other place can you practice this? In a relatively safe [environment], than these martial arts competitions – especially Jiu-Jitsu?
It’s an incredible vibe, with all these highly trained assassins coming into the same place… I personally love it.
I love the competition, I love the feeling of being on the mat and just going at it.

And yes, Zoltan Bathory loves Jiu-Jitsu! He even trains while on tour:
I hired BJJ black belts for band security so I could train on the road.
We carry our mats and set up our “backstage dojo” every day.
