Want More Progress In BJJ? Start Stretching Your Personal Boundaries

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut – both in life and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu alike. After a while, sure, you do continue training as you really enjoy the Gentle Art… But it starts to feel as if you’re just doing the same things, over and over again. As if you’re not making any substantial progress and as if there’s no way out of the plateau you found yourself in.
When that happens, you need to step out of your comfort zone. You need to start stretching your personal boundaries.

STRETCH YOUR PERSONAL BOUNDARIES IN BJJ

Professor Ryan Young, from Kama Jiu-Jitsu, explains that if you wish to acquire success in BJJ (whatever the word “success” may mean to you), you have to step out of your comfort zone from time to time and do something different.
For instance, at a recent tournament, some of his lower belts (some of which are kids, even) have decided to step it up a notch and apply for either more advanced or younger divisions – for instance, one girl stepped up from her white belt level to a blue belt level, and won third place there. One other girl had done something similar, but didn’t place… Which doesn’t really matter, as both of them experienced substantial growth.

Do something that’s difficult. Challenge yourself. And you’re going to be well on your way to BJJ excellence.
Professor Young explains why that’s the case in more detail on the video below:
