Yesterday’s UFC on FX show in Nashville, Tennessee, was a Jiu-Jitsu-practitioners’ feast. The end grappling tally was four rear-naked chokes, a guillotine and loads of epic action on the ground, provided by the up-and-comers looking for their spot in the UFC limelight. (Learn the rear-naked choke below.)

HAND ON SHOULDER AND JIU-JITSU LESSON

The finest gentle art lesson of all came in the main event, with Jim Miller finding himself on the wrong side of the striking exchanges against Melvin Guillard, who strung together solid combinations and threatened with his terrifying flying knee. Until Miller shot to Guillard’s back, mounted just right positioned sideways, and fit one arm under the arm and the other over the shoulder.

“If he’d have gone straight for the rear-naked choke he’d have lost the position, because Guillard would have shaken him off or tossed him forward,” remarked Andrezinho Nogueira, a MG Ceará black belt and MMA fighter who was watching the event on Brazil’s Combate channel.
