Have you recently hit a plateau in Jiu-Jitsu? Does it seem that, no matter how much you’re trying to learn and apply new techniques, you just can’t seem to improve?
You might be tempted to push yourself because of this. To train harder than you’ve ever trained before and to increase the number of mat hours… But here’s the thing – merely training harder isn’t the answer.
Nick “Chewy” Albin shares a better alternative.
TRAINING HARDER ISN’T THE ANSWER – HERE’S A BETTER ALTERNATIVE
Naturally, you should always seek to train hard, but if you’re focused on simply accumulating more mat hours and rolling more… That isn’t going to cut it. For, as fantastic as rolling hard is, it’s not enough for plateau breakthroughs.
Instead, what you should focus on is positional rolling. That’s the area in which you ought to invest more training hours. For, by training things that are specific to you – the things that you’re having trouble with – you’ll be forcing yourself to develop skills in those areas where you’re not performing at your best.
So, if you’re experiencing a plateau, stop and think… Which positions and techniques are you bad at? Once you answer that question, you know what you have to do: take some time aside and invest it purely into positional rolling.
After just a couple of weeks of doing this, you’ll notice massive improvements in your game. Watch the video below to learn more why this type of training is best:
