One can never necessarily be completely “ready” for a real self defense situation, however, we can increase our odds of surviving against a violent attacker by targeting certain moves, and training various types of martial arts. In a street fight, you should try to run away, use an improvised object for protection, or grapple.
If someone tries to punch you, you better be ready to close that distance and block that punch… And then to follow up!
Yes, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can be used in self defense situations. However, you’d probably want to utilize some different tactics than it’d be the case in a sport BJJ match.
