You Don’t Need To Train “More” – Focus Is More Important In BJJ

We completely understand you. You’re so eager to become better in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! And you’re willing to put in both the time and the effort in order to improve to the best of your abilities.
But, as tempting as it may sound to ramp up the number of training hours per week, to train more frequently, you need to be aware that this might not be such a great idea. Here is why and what a better alternative is.

YOU DON’T NEED TO TRAIN “MORE” – YOU NEED TO BE FOCUSED

Sure, if you feel like it, go for it. Ramp up and increase the number of times you train per week. This way, you’ll gain experience through which you’ll notice the following truth: just because you’re increasing mat hours doesn’t mean you’ll improve faster. And what’s more, because of the additional stress on the body, you might notice that you’re also getting injured more frequently and easily!

This is because just “being present” on the mats won’t cut it. Rather, the skill you need to be working on is the one of focus. For, by being better focused, you’ll have specific goals so as to what you want to improve; and, therefore, shorten the timespan necessary for achieving success in the Gentle Art.
So, don’t be afraid of lowering your training frequency. You need your body to stay healthy for Jiu-Jitsu and you’ll need to be more focused in class to make the best out of it (read how on this article).
