Last week, we showed you how to get a snatch single off of the underhook the same way Bruce Baumgartner used to do it. Today, the guys at Big Guy BJJ are showing us how to perform a duck under from the underhook when an opponent squares up with you.
Anytime you move into the underhook position, it’s important to continue to control your opponent’s head. By doing so, you control where they move so that you can perform your takedown. Just as we set up submissions with fake outs and misdirections, takedowns must be the same way.
Here we see that snapping an opponent down from the underhook may cause them to attempt to square their hips back up with your own. When they do, they’ve made their underhooked arm very light, and very easy to duck under for the high crotch takedown. Check it out, and let us know what you think.
