Tom DeBlass’ Advice For Non-Competitors: “Don’t Hold Yourself At The Same Standards”

Do you often find yourself comparing with those “monsters” on the mat…
Who, even though they are on the same belt level as you are, can tap you out 9 times out of 10? (With that 1 time being a flow roll).

Well, Tom DeBlass says that you shouldn’t be doing that.
Here is a simple reason why:

Non competitors should not be holding themselves to the same standards as those looking to be a high level competitor.
I’d be naive to think I can go into your line of work and do as much as you do without dedicating myself to it full time.

There is no need for comparison.
Just have fun!

DeBlass continues:

The worst thing you can do is compare yourself to people trying to be a world class athlete.
That’s like guys that play in a softball league comparing themselves to the MLB. It’s simply unattainable

They become the best they can be because they already have a full time life somewhere else.

Just like if a pro athlete tried to be a carpenter or lawyer, without dedicating as much time to it as a full time carpenter or lawyer.
