As the founder of the sub-only Sapateiro, Josh Leduc practices what he promotes, and he proved that when he earned two heel-hook victories at a competition on Saturday. Although his first victory was relatively uneventful, his second win came at the cost of his opponent’s health: a fact which initially kept him from posting the video of the match.
Leduc wrote in the description of the video for his first match, “Entered an absolute division at Tommy Carpenters school today. This was my first match heel hook about 3 minutes in. I won’t be posting my second match for the public for a while. I won that by outside heel hook but unfortunately broke my opponents tibia. Then bowed out of my spot in the finals.
For those of you who don’t respect outside heel hooks you should.”
The next day, after speaking with multiple people involved, Leduc changed his mind and decided that sharing the video of his second match could benefit athletes who think that the can “eat” dangerous submissions.
Be advised that the following video is graphic.
** Warning Graphic Content **So after speaking with my coaches and partners, and checking up on my opponent to find out that he will recover well without needing surgery (clean break); they told me and we decided I should release this footage as a reminder that all subs are dangerous. I've heard a lot of high level guys say they can eat outside heel hooks and they only cause pops and not real damage. This is a lie, and is mostly due to the fact that few people understand breaking mechanics. We need to all realize the techniques we do, when done properly are meant to cause real damage and we need to respect this. I don't want to see anyone else get hurt from not respecting and outside heel hook or an ankle lock. All of these techniques have the ability to alter your body in serious ways and take a long time to recover from. So please realize when someone has you in a pin with a submission locked in, that is the time to tap. Don't believe in your flexibility and rely on that to escape, because eventually something like this could happen. Don't try to eat outside heel hooks they work. A ton of love and respect to my opponent he will make a full recovery and I look forward to training with him when he's healed, he's a great guy.#JustTap #LegLocksDoWork #BJJ #LegLocker
