Most people with a year or two of experience in Brazilian jiu-jitsu know how to escape an omoplata. You just roll forward.
The problem with this escape is that you end up with your opponent on top of you in side control. While this is certainly better than getting tapped, most of us would rather not give our opponent such a dominant position.
But is there a way to escape the omoplata and keep your opponent off of you?
