I had difficulty learning how to perform the “Granby Roll” — aka “Monkey Roll” — when I started jiu-jitsu. It just is not an intuitive movement, and I struggled with how to do it as smoothly as some of the purple belts I saw.
This drill is an easy and safe (no bad pressure on your cervical spine) method to practice how to roll to recover your guard.
Try to perform the roll as relaxed and loosely as possible.
