If there is one thing we can do here at the Jiu-Jitsu Times, it is admit when we made a mistake. And yesterday, we made a mistake.
We posted a video about a Krav Maga instructor who seemingly criticized a hair pull self-defense demonstration from Rener and Eve Gracie.
Well, it turns out, the instructor wasn’t criticizing that video at all.
“I never saw the Rener video (still haven’t),” Ryan Hoover, the instructor in the video, told The Jiu-Jitsu Times. “And while it sounds like he taught something similar, the person behind the Sudbury video tells me Rener gave more detail and context. Regardless, while I can’t stand by the premise of the things I said in the video, it wasn’t directed at Rener. It’s also important to note that I have nothing to do with the editing of videos.”
In other words, Hoover never called anyone a “McDojo Sensei.”
The Sudbury video in question is the video at the bottom of the article.
We here at the Jiu-Jitsu Times want to apologize to Hoover and the jiu-jitsu community for helping to spread misinformation.
