Muay Thai legend Rodtang Jitmuangnon was spotted wearing a BJJ gi training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Thailand. This is a possible indicating that he may be venturing into Grappling and MMA.
Jason ‘Spark Plug’ Burnworth shared a photo of this training session on his official Instagram account, capturing Jitmuangnon in the background donning a gi and a white belt. BJJ world champion DJ Jackson was teaching the class at Southside MMA Thailand. Although this picture could simply depict a casual training session, it is worth keeping an eye on Jitmuangnon’s potential utilization of his BJJ skills in the future.
Rodtang Jitmuangnon has solidified his position as the king of Muay Thai in recent years. He performs on an entirely different level. Since his debut in 2016 at the age of 19, he has already participated in over 300 professional fights, boasting an impressive victory rate of nearly 90%. Throughout his career, Jitmuangnon has secured numerous titles in the sport and currently holds the esteemed ONE Championship flyweight world champion title.
At the age of 26, Jitmuangnon still has ample time to further his combat sports career, and it appears he may be considering new challenges. This inclination isn’t entirely surprising, as he previously engaged in a mixed-rules bout against MMA legend Demetrious Johnson. In that particular fight, the competitors alternated between their respective sports each round. Jitmuangnon, however, was ultimately submitted in the second round (the first MMA round) via a rear-naked choke. Consequently, it can be inferred that he had already undergone significant grappling training to prepare for this encounter, primarily focusing on fundamental no-gi submission defense and standing techniques.
