Thiago Braga, a 32-year-old Brazilian man with over 15 years of jiu-jitsu MMA skills, News by SMH Thiago saved a tourist from a street mugging on Saturday morning. The mugging victim, a 23-year-old man from Indonesia, was taking a morning stroll along Pyrmont lane in Sydney when he was attacked, and his purse ripped off his hands. The attacker, a 39-year-old man, had sprayed capsicum spray on the victim’s face, which left him (the victim) temporarily blind and in pain as his purse was taken from him.
The heroic act of Thiago Braga
The Australian jiu-jitsu champion was driving along the Sydney Street when he saw the street mugging victim. After pulling over his car, he proceeded to get water to assist the victim get as much of the capsicum spray off his eyes as possible. He, then, moved to seek the culprit, Anthony Ryder, who was not far from the scene as he had stopped to check the contents of the stolen purse. Thiago pounced on the man and held him down with jiu-jitsu expertise even after the man had bitten flesh off his arm and sprayed him with capsicum spray.
Justice for the mugging
Thiago held the mugging culprit for close to 15 minutes before the police arrived and arrested the man. Not only did Thiago return the victim’s stolen bag, to the gratitude of the victim, but he also ensured that the culprit did not get away. The street mugging culprit was taken away by the police and charged with bodily harm, use of dangerous weapon and robbery. Thankfully, he was not granted bail, and on Sunday morning, he was charged at the Paramatta Bail court. Thiago Braga has received much praise for his bravery, and even as he recuperates, he looks forward to the jiu-jitsu training he provides various students in various Sydney gyms.
