(For a breakdown of the 6 basic positions click here.)
Once you’re behind the other guy you can attack him with chokes, joint locks and even strikes without much fear of retaliation.
But establishing rear mount on a resisting opponent can be tricky, especially if he has learned some basic defenses like not exposing his back during transitions. This is where higher-level techniques like the one I’m about to share with you come in…

This method of taking the back is GREAT – check it out!
P.S. This technique to take the back is from How to Defeat the Bigger, Stronger Opponent Series 2, which is a 5 volume set available in online streaming, DVD and app formats! This is one of my very favorite instructionals and I learned SO much while filming it for you guys!
P.P.S. Once you’ve go to the back you want to stay there, right? Here are some Hidden Techniques for Maintaining Rear Mount.
P.P.P.S. The Kimura is an ultra-versatile technique. Here’s a video and article combo about how you can use the Kimura both on the near side AND the far side of your opponent’s body. This will really diversify your attack options.
