Every Successful Jiu-Jitsu Student Has These Two Skills

If you want to become successful in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – whether that means on the international stage or “just” to become the best you can – then there are two skills that you need to work on.

No, they’re not techniques. Instead, they have to do with the approach you take to Jiu-Jitsu.
Brian Glick explains the first of the two skills:

The first is getting accurate information from the world.

Right now there are more sources than ever. A part of your work as a student is to focus on filtering the data you’re receiving, and then to test it yourself.

Through this process you can also see what might be missing, leaving you with new questions to ask as you make your way through the details.

The second skill is to then be able to sort this information and rank it according to its importance:

If you want to deal successfully with a changing set of goals – not to mention resistance and counters to your attacks and defenses – you’ve got to look deeply into them.

If you start with accurate information, then rank it based on how important it is, you’ll be able to ignore what ISN’T important and pay attention to what IS important.
