European Open Champion Bradley Hill Shares IBJJF “Cheat Code” to Winning Matches

For competitors in point-based tournaments like IBJJF, it would be nice to rely strictly on the power of perfect jiu-jitsu technique to win matches. That’s not always the case, though. In a recent video, two-time IBJJF European Open champion Bradley Hill shares a “cheat code” to quickly and easily racking up points in a match while expending minimal energy.

What’s the hack? It’s called the “omoplata exploit.” Let Hill explain.

Of course, this approach requires the ability to secure and hold an omoplata. But from that initial submission attempt, Hill allows his opponent to continually roll to escape the submission. Each time his opponent rolls, Hill takes top position for a count of three, earns two points, rolls to his back while keeping the lock, and repeats the process.

The omoplata is Hill’s trademark submission. A Gracie Barra black belt under Braulio Estima, Hill’s nickname is, fittingly, the Omoplata Man. In addition to his European Open championships, Hill is a Polaris veteran and a three-time IBJJF Worlds medalist.
