BJJ Advice: Become An Expert In A Few Moves, Rather Than Mediocre In Many

There are so many moves in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. So many techniques, so many transitions, so many things that you can get into nitty-gritty details with… That it seems that you’ll never quite learn them all. But that’s the thing: you won’t learn them all. No one is capable of doing that. And if you try to do so, you’ll only be mediocre at a vast number of techniques which aren’t connected well.
So, here’s a word of BJJ advice; instead of becoming mediocre in many moves, focus on becoming an expert in a few of them. This will make your Jiu-Jitsu skillset skyrocket.

Don’t believe us? Then you’ll surely believe John Danaher, who shared the same BJJ advice on an Instagram post not too long ago:

When it comes to developing your offensive moves in Jiu-Jitsu, more is not better. Whichever [moves] you select, you will have to develop them over years through trial and error and experimentation. They, perhaps more than anything else will define who you are as a Jiu-Jitsu athlete.

Remember always that you will be judged not by how many you know, but by how good you are at those you have chosen.
Understand that true expertise in a few is far better than mediocrity in many.

So, what are you waiting for? Take advantage of this BJJ advice and start focusing on a set number of techniques, the ones you like most (and the ones you feel most naturally inclined to) – and become exceptional at them.
