Adjust the ezequiel with João Miyao’s finish from the Chicago Open

João Miyao’s winning attack at the Chicago Open.

Held last weekend in the U.S., the IBJJF Chicago Summer Open had submissions of all sorts deciding the main divisions, but one move employed in the men’s light feather final stood out.

João Miyao of Cicero Costha faced Suraj Budhram (Renato Tavares) for the gold medal. After shifting positions a lot before being able to successfully apply the sweep, Miyao worked from the top, arrived on the side and placed his knee on his opponent’s stomach.

In order to defend, Suraj turned on his side, and in the middle of the movement, Miyao sprung a precise ezequiel with one hand under the armpit, to then sit and apply pressure until he got the tap-out.

Watch the play below and study Miyao’s movement to better adjust your own ezequiels.
