5 Tips For Finding & Developing Your Own BJJ Game

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gets really enjoyable once you start figuring out your own game. It’s almost like you’re creating an identity for yourself on the mats; as your BJJ game is what will make you different from everyone else.
But actually developing your own game can be difficult. Here are 5 tips to help with doing that.

5 TIPS FOR DEVELOPING YOUR BJJ GAME

First of all, you have to ask yourself – what is your body type? For, your body type will dictate a large portion of your game. For instance, if you’re not particularly tall and you kind of have short legs… Then basing your offense around the Triangle probably isn’t the wisest idea.
Secondly, do you have any physical limitations? If you’ve hurt your knee as a kid, then trying to Gogoplata people is probably only going to lead to disastrous consequences.

Also, what do you enjoy? All things aside, you train Jiu-Jitsu because it’s fun – so, don’t shy away from forming your game around the stuff you really enjoy doing on the mats.
But you shouldn’t just stick to the things you already know, though. Rather, experiment with new positions, moves, and techniques. This will lead to a fuller understanding of the Gentle Art and will open your eyes to new possibilities.

And lastly, if your coach has a body type and/or Jiu-Jitsu preferences that are in any degree similar to yours, then follow what your coach does. You can ask him lots of questions about developing your BJJ game – so don’t miss out on that opportunity.
