In Nanjing, China on Monday night, Mason Manville won his silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling. Cade Olivas and Daton Fix won theirs in Freestyle wrestling on the final night of the Youth Olympic games.
Olivas competed at 46 kg. He lost, 3-1, against Russian Ismail Gadzhiev. Gadzhiev employed numerous defensive maneuvers, and appeared to stall a bit on the feet.
Fix competed at 54 kg. He immediately fell behind on points, 6-0, to Kazakhstan’s Mukhambek Kuatbek. However, he quickly made a strong comeback to tie the score, but was pushed out of bounds with seconds left in the match, and ultimately lost, 3-1.
Manville competed at 69 kg. While earning technical falls on his matches leading up to the finals, he was defeated 3-0 in the finals match against Azerbaijan’s Dadov Islambek.
Congratulations to these young wrestlers, who obviously have a bright future in the sport ahead of them.
