Takedowns from The Knees in BJJ Are a Waste of Time

Recently I’ve had several White Belt viewers request takedowns from the knees for their BJJ training.

In this video I share 2 different takedowns you can do from the knees in BJJ. But I also share how much I dislike the idea of practicing takedowns from the knees.

If you’re going to do a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournament. The match will always start from the feet. And if you are ever in the unfortunate situation of a street fight or some sort of altercation outside the gym. It doesn’t start from the knees.

When I first started training Brazilian Jiujitsu I practiced from the knees and for a long time I even had my classes start from this weird position.

Then after thinking about it more, I realized there was no point. Our time would be better off working from the feet or simply starting in a guard position or some area on the ground.

But I know that many of you don’t have a choice in the matter. So hopefully these two takedowns from the knees will be useful for you with your BJJ training.

And if for some reason you experience difficulty making them work. Just pull guard and work from the bottom!

Hope the BJJ techniques in the video were useful!

Thanks!
