Tapping is a very important part of Jiu-Jitsu. If one does not tap, you could get seriously hurt. The question often comes up when someone gets hurt from not tapping, as to whether it is the individual fighter’s fault for not tapping, or the referee for not stopping the match. However, it is a principle in Jiu-Jitsu that the fighter protects his own arm. Some are willing to chalk up such injuries to one of those things that happen from time to time. However, because failing to tap can result in a broken arm as is seen in this fight, fighters should be encouraged to tap from a Kimura to protect themselves and avoid devastating injury.

What happens when you don’t tap from a Kimura…Ouch that sound was horrible. Who is to blame here? The Referee who didn’t stop it or the guy who didn’t want to tap?
