Julianna Pena pulled off one of the biggest upset wins in the UFC history a couple of days ago. In the co-main event of UFC 269, in Las Vegas, she fought for the women’s bantamweight title against Amanda Nunes… And managed to submit her with a Rear Naked Choke!
The first round started out heavily in the sphere of grappling, which was known to be Pena’s most favorable place to be in if she wanted to snatch the victory. However, Nunes took advantage of her own grappling prowess; gaining and maintaining a dominant top position throughout the round, as well as successfully defending against Pena’s Kimura attempt.

Then, in the second round, Pena took the lead. She pressured Nunes from the very first second, exchanging strikes with her non-stop. Pena seemed to be in advantage when it comes to striking and it seemed like she’ll finish the fight off her feet.
However, she then went for a takedown and started to work for the Rear Naked Choke. As she set it up, Nunes tapped out – and Julianna Pena was crowned as the new bantamweight division champion!
