“How do I escape the rear mount?”
This is a common question among BJJ students.
The first obligatory response is “Don’t get there!” Escaping the most dominant position in the jiu-jitsu hierarchy is not easy, even if you know the correct technique. It is better to not give the back in the first place and avoid the problem altogether.
But when you find yourself on the strong side of your opponent’s rear mount, this is my #1 “go to” escape. The foot work can be a little tricky, so you need to drill it to get the dexterity to remove that bottom hook.
