Tom DeBlass Promoted To 4th Degree BJJ Black Belt

Tom DeBlass, one of the most recognized and respected personalities in the BJJ world, has been promoted to 4th degree BJJ black belt!

The promotion took place just a few hours ago, by DeBlass’ coach Ricardo Almeida:

Stripes 1, 2, and 3 are given after 3 years at each degree. From 3rd to 4th degree, it’s 5 years.

I believe it was 5 years at 3rd degree almost a year ago, but once you become a black belt, all the years blend together.

DeBlass is grateful for the journey so far:

What a ride this has been. I am so thankful for the beautiful life Jiu-Jitsu has given me.

When I first stepped on the mats over 20 years ago, literally no one knew martial arts could give someone the life it’s given me.
I stepped away from a tenured teaching position after obtaining a college degree to pursue this dream, and I’m so thankful I did.

Of course, nothing of it would have been possible without the years of hard work and sacrifice that Tom had invested:

I will remind everyone of one thing, however.
Self-belief isn’t enough; work ethic must be as big as your dreams are.

Without hard work, nothing is possible.
