Why do you like Jiu-Jitsu? There are probably plenty of reasons for it, ranging from the stress release to the friends you’ve made on the mats.
And it’s exactly like that for Tim Kennedy, who is a BJJ black belt and UFC veteran, as well as a Green Beret and Special Forces Ranger.
He shared how he came across Jiu-Jitsu and how he feels about it, in a colorful way:
You know, I stumbled into jujitsu like a clumsy toddler entering a china shop, and surprisingly, it has saved my life.
It’s like a therapeutic blend of awkwardness and enlightenment mixed with violence.
When I roll with some of the new transplants in Austin I feel as useful as a chocolate teapot, I’m learning humility in the most painful way.
Plus, trying to remember all those techniques is like my brain’s personal version of “Wipeout.”But that’s the magic: it’s a constant exercise in patience and problem-solving.
Kennedy continues:
I promise, your mental resilience will go from “wet paper bag” to “titanium fortress.”
Of all the benefits of Jiu Jitsu the one that hits home the most for me is the community and camaraderie; I’ve met some fantastic folks who share my affinity for clumsiness on the mats.
So, yeah, jujitsu may not make me the next action movie star, but it sure is a hilarious and effective way to keep my mental marbles intact!
