The United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR) is taking a stronger stand against violence against women by giving female refugees the skills they need to fight off an attacker.
At this year’s 16 Days of Activism, the UN is offering self-defense classes for female refugees. This year’s theme is “Leave No One Behind: End Violence Against Women And Girls.”
The class teaches women boxing and basic self-defense skills.
“We aim is to empower women physically and psychologically though self-defense,” said Coach Batoul Jaikat.
One refugee, Aisha, said it would benefit her and teach her how to defend herself against street harassment.
