The Dirty Little Secret Of Getting Better Jiu-Jitsu

We all want better Jiu-Jitsu.

We often isn’t clear is how we go about getting better Jiu-Jitsu.

The answer is surprisingly simple. TRAIN during training. Use training time for what it is designed for…to train.

Training time is not for sitting around discussing philosophy. It’s not time for discussing business and marketing tactics. It’s not time to gossip like little girls in a schoolyard.

Understand that training is the only way to learn new things and evolve your game.

Train as much as possible. Get outside of your comfort zone and work hard. Your gi may get a little sweaty but that’s okay you can wash it. Push yourself 100 percent doing the concept drills you do. The drills are not only to develop reflex but also your physical endurance. So don’t cheat yourself by not working to your full potential.

Also be sure to spar at the end of class. You should always spar with at least three people. It will increase your endurance and begin to allow you to master the mental endurance part of Jiu-Jitsu. Nerves and pressure can take a huge toll on you. But that’s a good thing because the fight or flight response of our psyche is going to help sharpen that focus.

The more you roll, the faster you are going to learn.

To sum it up: train during training, and drill during drilling. That is the “dirty” little secret that is going to take you leaps and bounds on the mats, because you are going to have to get a little dirty.
