Submission Underground (SUG) displayed yet another edition of its excellent promotion, with Submission Underground 29. It featured a tag-team grappling championship, as well as a main event between Andy Varela and UFC veteran Sean Strickland… Which ended up being the weirdest bout of the entire competition.
Namely, Strickland decided to turn away from Varela with 45 seconds remaining in the match. He then lifted his arms in the air to celebrate; which Varela immediately used to attempt a foot sweep from behind. That didn’t work, so Varela jumped on Strickland’s back and sunk in a Rear Naked Choke.
Strickland tried to defend by diving forward onto the mat, slamming Varela. However, Varela had the choke locked in deep and Strickland had no other option than to tap out.
The two were light-hearted about it afterwards, too. Check it out on the video below:
