You know how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn’t exactly the safest thing to do? There is always the risk of injuries, even the ones which could put you out of training for months on end… But other than that, BJJ is a great martial art!
With that said, there are some things you could do to mitigate the overall risk for your Jiu-Jitsu longevity; both on the mats and in life in general.
RISK MITIGATION FOR BJJ LONGEVITY
If you want to train BJJ for as long as possible, there are going to be some sacrifices that you’ll be advised to make in life.
For instance, some Jiu-Jitsu students don’t go skiing because, no matter how much (or how little) they like the mountains… They don’t want to risk injuries to their ACL and MCL. Then again, some don’t play basketball because they don’t want to sprain their ankles. Or they don’t ride motorcycles, for the fear of falling or getting hit.
Some of the sacrifices you make in life, to ensure BJJ longevity, are going to be different from the sacrifices other people make. But the sacrifices you make on the mats should be practically the same for every student.
Not going for flying submissions. Making the time to thoroughly warm up and cool down. And even risking getting caught a bit more when you want to learn a new technique.
Which risks in life and on the mats do you mitigate, to make sure you keep rolling for a long time?
