Should You Train Both Sides When Doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? Yes!

Should you train both sides when practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

Yes, according to BJJ black belt Ryan Young. Ryan, who happens to be left handed, argues that if you don’t encourage students to train on both sides, they’re only going to be proficient on one side.

I’ve heard arguments against Young’s view. My professor once opined that tennis players don’t practice on their left and right sides, so why should Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners?

Still, Professor Young makes some strong points.
