Reinier de Ridder last competed in submission grappling at ONE: X in March 2022, against Andre Galvao (who is also a coach of the Ruotolo brothers); with the bout ending in a draw.
“The Dutch Knight” is also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and he’s been using his grappling skills to dominate his competition inside the octagon.
Tye Ruotolo, on the other hand, has made his ONE Championship submission grappling debut in May 2022 and has had two fights up until now – and for now remains undefeated.
And yes… He is super excited about taking on de Ridder, as it’s a test that he wanted to put the Dutchman through for quite some time now.
Here’s what he said to ONE Championship:
The true essence of Jiu-Jitsu is being able to beat the bigger guy no matter what, with pure technique. And I’ve seen Reinier de Ridder say that he’s gonna sub anyone in the world.
I definitely want to test that.… Yeah, I would love to get a Jiu-Jitsu match with Reinier. He’s a bit taller, but I think can definitely sub him. Let’s do it.
