Danielle Kelly, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu superstar, had previously shown interest in making a move to mixed martial arts (MMA).
However, in a recent interview with the South China Morning Post, Kelly emphasized that moving to MMA right now… Might not be the best idea:
I’m not in any rush. Maybe I don’t want to do MMA, I don’t know. Maybe it would be like a one-off or something. It’s definitely on my mind because I got my start in Jiu-Jitsu as a kid.
Like, I wanted to fight but I never did have an MMA fight. But obviously, yeah. If that MMA fight comes to mind, some things have to be changed, that’s just for the future.
But right now, grappling just makes sense right now.
She does want to fight in MMA, but right now it’s much better for her to stay focused on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training and competition:
I haven’t kicked it off my mind completely but, you know, with the grappling titles or anything I would want to accomplish something in Jiu-Jitsu.
Yeah, I think that it makes sense to me that I’m focused on Jiu-Jitsu, but I still train with MMA girls right now.Right now, with all the opportunities with what I’m doing it just makes sense to focus on Jiu-Jitsu right now.
