Navy SEAL & BJJ Black Belt: “You Become A Target Just By The Way You Walk”

Training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu comes with many benefits, including learning how to defend yourself properly.
However, proper self-defense doesn’t start when things already go haywire; rather, it begins by preventing things from going bad in the first place. And one of the ways you can do that is by being wary of the way you walk.

Yes, really. Jocko Willink – a retired Navy SEAL and BJJ black belt – explains why this is the case.

THE WAY YOU WALK MAKES YOU A TARGET

Jocko explains that people who have the proclivity to crime and whose character is in-line with “dark traits” (eg. psychopathology and narcissism) are extremely good at spotting potential victims. And how do they spot them? It’s simple, actually: by the way they carry themselves and walk down the street.

So how do you make yourself a target by the way you walk? There are a couple of factors.
For instance, if you’re making small steps and if you’re not looking people in the eyes, then you’re giving off that you lack confidence. Also, the clothes you wear can provide a lot of valuable information to the potential attackers on whether or not you’re “worth” attacking.

In simple terms: there are things that you can do to protect yourself in the real world. And one of those things is learning how to walk with confidence.
