The armbar is one of the most common, most popular, and most powerful submissions in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. If you train with anybody your own level or higher then you’re gonna get caught in it… often.
You need to have answers for this problem….
In fact you need to have multiple escapes that work for different variations of the armbar. You need a Plan A, a Plan B, and a Plan C, D, and E…
Here’s my Plan A escape for when I’m caught in the armbar.
Of course it doesn’t work every time – no technique does. The truth is that in BJJ, just as in life, no one answer fits every solution. Sometimes your opponent will use a different grip, or change up his leg position, or do something strange with his body position.
But this is the exact technique that has gotten me out of hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of armbars in my BJJ career. It’s my bread and butter move for sure!
