Mauricio Gomes — BJJ coral belt and the father of Roger Gracie — will be returning to action for one last hurrah.
Gomes will be in action at this year’s IBJJF World Masters. The last time he competed was 1998 — 20 years ago!
When asked why he wanted to compete again, Gomes said he wanted “one last deep breath before the final punch.”
It’s just one of those things that, you want to have another go. And I want to have another go. It’s been exactly 20 years since my last time I did it.
Master Gomes said he doesn’t care about results. He just wants to have fun. After all, he has nothing to prove.
Check out his video below. You can also read an interview we did with Gomes back in 2016 here.
It's been 20 years since Mauricio Gomes last put on his competition kimono, but he's coming out of retirement for one last time at the IBJJF World Masters!
