Lucas Lepri now figures on the list of Jiu-Jitsu black belts guaranteed to be at the WPJJ next April in the United Arab Emirates. At the New York tryouts for the event, last Sunday, the team Alliance teacher put in a splendid display in the under-74 kg (under 163 lbs) and earned all-expenses-paid travel.

“I’m pleased with my performance, even though it’s my first championship of the year. I’m glad everything worked out. The Pan in California is coming up in a few days, so we have to keep focused. I had four matches, four of them I won by submission, and I won the final on points,” he told GRACIEMAG.com

RESPECT JIU-JITSU’S BROWN BELTS

To Lepri, who had to lock horns with brown belts on his way to the gold medal, the biggest lesson to come of the event had to do with respect. “This championship I learned that you have to respect your opponents regardless of their belt or name, because everyone is training hard to win,” he reflected.
