John Danaher Has A Simple Tactic For Getting Ahead Of Your Opponent: “Win The Height Battle”

There is no shortage of techniques in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. You could spend your whole life trying to learn them all, but it would be in vain.

Concepts, on the other hand, are much lower in numbers…
And applying them in a match, at the right time, could mean the difference between winning and losing.

For example, winning the height battle is incredibly important. And it’s a good “tactic” to abide to.
John Danaher explains why that is the case:

Winning a battle for height will often prove to be of the greatest importance in certain situations in Jiu jitsu.

Sometimes you win by getting higher and on top of an opponent – sometimes you win by getting lower and underneath the center of gravity of an opponent – which one you choose will be dependent on what you’re trying to achieve and what your opponent presents to you.

What won’t change however, is the need to threaten both against good opponents.

So, it’s time that you start “faking it”!

Fake going high and then dive underneath – or threaten going under and then quickly pop up on top.
It’s the dual threat that always does best!
