Flavio Almeida and his family had recently moved from Brazil in order to open the new Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu gym located in Scottsdale. Almeida had said that Jiu Jitsu is capable of addressing different needs. For children, a large part of what the martial art can do for them is teach them how to fight for themselves and stand up to protect themselves.
Almeida had also said that the very first lesson that kids learn when they practice Jiu Jitsu is self respect. They are taught to walk away from a fight when it is necessary. They are taught to stand up for themselves no matter what type of bullying they may encounter. The program is one of the best ways to build confidence and self esteem in its practitioners. The teachers will also be holding anti bullying workshops to help spread awareness.
