It’s The Experiences You’ll Gain Through BJJ That Matter Most

Oh, the love you feel towards BJJ – it’s just immeasurable, right? You could drill and roll all day long, and you’d never get tired from it. Simply enough, Jiu-Jitsu makes you really happy!
With that, what would you say is the most important thing you’ll gain through BJJ? Is it the wins, the medals, the techniques… Or could it be that it’s the experiences themselves?

COMPETITION EXPERIENCES

The wins and the medals you’ll gain in competition are important. But they’re nowhere as important as they are when you take the experiences of competing into consideration!

By experiencing competition, you’ll learn how to better handle yourself in stressful situations, as well as how to pick yourself up from a bad position – and find a way towards a better one.
Competition teaches you how to fight against your insecurities and how to use your skills under pressure. In short: the experiences you’ll go through in tournaments are the most critical tools for your future BJJ and personal growth.

EXPERIENCES OF OVERCOMING DIFFICULTIES

Both in competitions and training alike, you’ll often find yourself head-to-head against some vicious obstacles. Obstacles, that will sometimes feel unsurpassable.
But that won’t matter. As you persevere in your rolls, you’ll figure out that any difficulty can be overcome. It’s just a matter of patience, grit, and shrugging off the losses as they come.

EXPERIENCES OF DEALING WITH LOSS

No matter how good you are, you’ll lose quite frequently in Jiu-Jitsu. You will tap out more times than you can count, and you’ll feel out of breath much more than you’d like to admit. Life is often like this, too; for, no matter how hard you try, sometimes you’ll simply be on the losing side.
What BJJ does is that it prepares you for these losses, as you go through them each training session. It teaches you how to handle defeat, and that no matter how bad stuff gets… That it can get better, but only if you go for another round.

EXPERIENCES OF LEARNING

There’s probably a lot of things that you’d like to know; whether at work, school, or any other sphere of life. But learning them well often takes a lot of time – and BJJ teaches you exactly that.
It teaches you that if you want to learn something, you can do it. But only if you both put in the effort and think about how to learn faster.

Combine these two aspects, and you’ll acquire anything you wish to.

EXPERIENCES WITH YOUR BJJ FRIENDS

Arguably the best part of Jiu-Jitsu is the people you train with. The experiences you gain through meeting them, rolling with them, and then forming friendships with them… There’s nothing else that comes remotely close to it.
Friendships that you make on the mats are often going to be stronger than the other ones in life. Treasure them, and bask in the marvel of how great it is to be around people who think similarly to you, that enjoy the same thing you do.

TRAVEL EXPERIENCES

The travel culture in BJJ is a marvel in and of itself. When you train, visiting other cities, countries and even continents doesn’t just have the „tourist“ adjective to it. Sure, you are still visiting certain places because you like how they look; but you’re going there for the BJJ travel experiences, too!
Meeting people from different cultures, and then learning about them through Jiu Jitsu, is a fantastic endeavor. All of the different personalities, all of the colorful worldviews… And the travel for the sake of BJJ makes your life more colorful as well.
