The week before a BJJ tournament can be a nerve wracking experience for the newer competitor.
There are however ways to mitigate this. Here is some advice by one of the greatest BJJ fighters of all time, Marcelo Garcia.
The week before a competition Marcelo suggest dialing it down a bit. Instead of having a sharp sword, one should work to have a clean sword. Drill what you know and what works. Stay away from learning new moves at this point because we should be focused on what we do know.
If you are good at a particular move, or sweep, it is OK to watch other competitors who excel at the same move.
Marcelo recommends taking at least two days off during fight week. This will not lower your confidence but will allow your body to rest. Taking this break will also lower your chance of getting injured before competition day.
